Sam Worthington & Zoe Saldana Returning For 3 More Avatar Sequels

Posted by Anne in Jan 17,2014 with No Comments

Jake Sully & Neytiri are back for three more “Avatar” sequels!

Director James Cameron announced that Sam Worthington and Zoe Saldana will reprise their roles from the 2009 blockbuster in three more movies.

“Jake Sully is rare combination of passion, strength, street smarts and soul, which requires a lot from an actor. Sam brought to the role a combination of sensitivity, vulnerability and strength,” Cameron said in a statement.

“Zoe captured every aspect of the character I envisioned, bringing to Neytiri a mix of delicacy, fierceness and incredible physicality. I am beyond pleased they’ll be returning with us to Pandora,” his statement continued.

Stephen Lang, who played mad Marine Colonel Quaritch in the 2009 film (and appeared to have died at the end of the movie), was the first star to sign on for more “Avatar.”

The plot of the new films is being kept under wraps, but according to The Hollywood Reporter, Jake and Neytiri have children in the films.

The first sequel will hit theaters in December 2016, with the second to follow in December 2017, and the third a year later. [Source]

Sam Worthington to Star in Foxtel Miniseries ‘The Gallipoli Story’

Posted by Anne in Dec 19,2013 with No Comments

The “Avatar” actor is co-producing the project, which Michael Rymer will direct.

Actor Sam Worthington will star in as well as produce The Gallipoli Story, with Michael Rymer (American Horror Story, Battlestar Galactica) named as director of the four-hour miniseries for Foxtel, the pay TV company said Monday.

The Gallipoli Story, set to shoot in South Australia in 2014, is one of two major productions to be made for Australian TV to commemorate the 2015 centenary of the ill-fated World War I battle that’s largely defined Australian nationhood.

Worthington’s Full Clip Productions is producing alongside NBCUniversal’s Matchbox Pictures, from a screenplay by Stuart Beattie, Jacquelin Perske, Cate Shortland and Shaun Grant.

Matchbox Pictures’ Penny Chapman; John Schwarz of Full Clip, and Penny Win, Foxtel’s commissioning editor of drama are executive producers alongside Worthington, who has been intimately involved in the development of the project. Read the rest of this entry »

Sam Worthington Headed Back To Pandora

Posted by Anne in Oct 22,2013 with No Comments

Director James Cameron is finally heading back to the world of Pandora, to create the second, third and fourth Avatar films, with the plan being to shoot them concurrently, in the way Peter Jackson shot Lord Of The Rings, according to Avatar star Sam Worthington.

Worthington was speaking to an Australian radio station when he revealed the plan that filming was to begin this time next year.

According to Variety, Cameron will be working with Josh Friedman, who scripted War of the Worlds, Rick Jaffa, writer of Rise of the Planet of the Apes, and Savages scribe Shane Salerno to write the screenplays for the three Avatar sequels.

The current plan is to release Avatar 2 in December of 2016, and then one new sequel every year through 2018.

According to Worthington and Cameron, the sequels will serve to deepen the world of Pandora, and explore more of the fictional planet’s majestic vistas and incredible alien life. [Source]

Jim Sturgess, Sam Worthington and Ryan Kwanten also have joined the project, to be directed by Daniel Alfredson.

Anthony Hopkins will play Dutch businessman Alfred “Freddy” Heineken in the new thriller Kidnapping Freddy Heineken. The grandson of the founder of the Heineken brewery and his driver were kidnapped in 1983 and released only after a ransom of 35 million Dutch guilders was paid, the largest ransom ever paid at the time.

Jim Sturgess, Sam Worthington, Ryan Kwanten, Dutch actor Mark van Eeuwen and Australian newcomer Tom Cocquerel round out the cast.

Daniel Alfredson – who directed the original 2009 Swedish film version of The Girl Who Played With Fire and its sequel, The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet’s Nest – will direct from a screenplay by William Brookfield based on a book about the case by Peter R. de Vries.

The film, which begins principal photography in late October in Belgium and then moves to Amsterdam and New Orleans, is being produced by Informant Media partners Judy Cairo and Michael A. Simpson and by Howard Meltzer under the Informant Europe banner. Informant partner Eric Brenner is executive producer. Read the rest of this entry »
