Sam Worthington arrested on disorderly conduct charge in Atlanta

Posted by Anne in Nov 06,2012 with No Comments

Sam Worthington was on the hook, then he was off the hook, after an allegedly drunken scuffle Saturday night in Atlanta that led to his arrest on suspicion of disorderly conduct.

The “Avatar” star was refused entrance to a restaurant because he appeared intoxicated and didn’t have proper identification to get into the place, TMZ reported Monday. Worthington then became disorderly, according to a police report obtained by the website, and allegedly pushed doorman Jerry Link twice.

The doorman in turn nailed the actor with pepper spray and cuffed him until cops arrived, the report said. And after the blast? Worthington told Link, “I’m a DEA agent,” according to TMZ.

Worthington plays a DEA agent in the film “Ten,” which he’s shooting in Atlanta and which costars Arnold Schwarzenegger.

Federal fabrication aside, Worthington was out of trouble almost as fast as he got into it when charges were dismissed Monday morning after Link didn’t show in court. The bouncer, however, maintains nobody told him about the court date.

People confirmed the incident with a restaurant manager who would not comment. [Source]

Sam Worthington Is Fun Fearless Male Of The Year

Posted by Anne in Mar 07,2012 with No Comments

Avatar star Sam Worthington has been crowned the Fun Fearless Male of the Year by editors at Cosmopolitan magazine.

The Australian hunk was named the winner of the annual accolade at a star-studded bash in New York City on Monday (05Mar12).

Explaining their choice, Cosmo bosses state, “Just as Russell Crowe and Brad Pitt are getting a little too old to fulfill our hottie-action-hero fantasies, along comes 35-year-old Sam Worthington. Our crush kicked in when the Aussie actor played a soldier with a heart of gold in Avatar and gained momentum as he showed off more skin and grit in Clash of the Titans. By the time he portrayed a Nazi-hunting secret agent in The Debt this past August, we were sold on him as our Fun Fearless Male of the Year.”

Worthington’s fellow Aussies Liam Hemsworth and Rose Byrne also picked up prizes at the ceremony, as did funnymen Jonah Hill and Paul Rudd, actresses Zoe Saldana and Freida Pinto, and country star Blake Shelton.

Worthington follows in the footsteps of British funnyman Russell Brand, who scooped the Fun Fearless honour last year (11).

Singers John Mayer and Nick Lachey and actors Patrick Dempsey and Josh Duhamel are also previous recipients. [Source]

5 Things You Don’t Know About Sam Worthington

Posted by Anne in Jan 09,2012 with No Comments

This Aussie hunk’s career got a huge boost when James Cameron cast him to play the lead role in his 2009 megahit Avatar. In the upcoming thriller Man on a Ledge, he plays an ex-cop and wanted fugitive who literally teeters on the ledge of a high-rise building while a police negotiator tries to talk him down. Here are five things you probably don’t know about Sam Worthington.

1. Born August 2, 1976 in southeastern England, he moved to Perth, Australia when he was six months old.

2. Sold all his possessions to pursue a career in Hollywood, and says he’s been living in hotels and crashing at friends’ houses ever since. He recently said he actually likes being a “gypsy” and has no plans to settle down and buy a permanent home anytime soon.

3. Made his Hollywood acting debut in 2000 in the military action series JAG.

4. Was a finalist to play James Bond in the 2006 film Casino Royale before Daniel Craig was cast.

5. Worked as a bricklayer before becoming an actor. [Source]

‘Avatar 2′ Underwater Filming Has Sam Worthington ‘Nervous’

Posted by Anne in Jan 09,2012 with No Comments

The upcoming sequel to James Cameron’s record-breaking film “Avatar” is going to showcase a whole new area of Pandora.

With the destruction of the Na’vi’s Hometree in the first flick, Jake Sully, Neytiri and the rest of the tribe are apparently going to be spending some quality time in the planet’s ocean. And, to try to keep the filmgoing experience as authentic as possible, Cameron would like to shoot those scenes underwater.

As an avid fan of diving, this is a passion project for Cameron, though he admitted to MTV News in the past that he likes to keep his work and extracurriculars separate. At least it’s not going to be all new to him, as Cameron previously said that he learned a few tricks from producing the underwater thriller “Sanctum.” The difficulty is trying to figure out how to do performance capture underwater, which is something he said has never been done before. Worthington up for Avatar sequels

Posted by Anne in Sep 02,2011 with No Comments

Sam Worthington has proclaimed he is ready and willing to do many more Avatar sequels.

The Australian star, who played Jake Sully in James Cameron’s blockbuster, is happy to reprise his role.

“I love it! I’d do 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9 and 10 with Jim,” he told Collider.

“I love working with him. He raises the bar and gives you the courage to jump over it, and he keeps pushing. He changes your life. He hasn’t just changed my life, career-wise. He’s changed my life, as a man, which is nice.”

Sam – who next stars in The Debt with Dame Helen Mirren – said fans can expect more from the second film.

“Jim talked to me on my birthday. In regards to Avatar, he’s writing ‘the bible’ at the moment, which is a precursor to Avatar 1 and the whole world, basically,” he said.

“I think it’s just to get Jim’s mind back into the characters and back into the world. He’s told me where he wants to take Avatar 2 and 3, and it’s monumental.

“It’s just huge! But, you’d expect nothing less from him. He’s not going to start it until he’s 100%. I know they’re setting up shop down in Manhattan Beach, and when he says jump, I jump.” [Source]
